Convocation 2025: Leading … the Eagle Way

The Barbers Hill ISD fieldhouse, usually a bastion of athletic cheers and competitive spirit, was buzzing with a different kind of energy on August 4. It was a sea of blue, filled not with athletes, but with the dedicated educators and staffers who were ready to embark on another school year. This was the annual convocation, a moment to rally the entire district and set a powerful tone for the year ahead.

The theme, emblazoned on banners and echoed from the stage, was “Leading the Eagle Way.” It was more than a slogan; it is a mission statement.

Superintendent Dr. Greg Poole took to the stage, his voice full of passion and conviction. His words resonated, reminding everyone of the core purpose that brought them all together. School Board President Mark Wilson followed, his address reinforcing the district's commitment to excellence and the unique family atmosphere that defines Barbers Hill.

Throughout the morning, the district’s impressive achievements were highlighted, and the fieldhouse was filled with the sights and sounds of student talent. During the annual confab, Lori May was named the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus, her legacy a testament to the district's enduring influence. Then, Rusty Senac was celebrated as this year's Honorary Eagle, a well-deserved honor for his contributions to the community.

With classes for more than 8,000 students starting on Wednesday, August 13, the educators and staffers left the fieldhouse feeling energized and inspired, ready to lead the Eagle way and welcome their students back to school.
